Westwood Thai Cafe | Our Story
From pizza deliveries to Westwood's table
In 1993, a former pizza deliveryman opened a tiny Thai cafe steps from UCLA — big portions, student-friendly prices, and a passion for cooking that's never left the kitchen.
A leap of faith on Westwood Blvd
He was delivering pizzas next door when he spotted his chance — and opened Westwood Thai Cafe in 1993 with a passion for cooking and a belief this neighborhood deserved something better.
The "give them more" philosophy
First lunch specials were just $2.50 — because the founding rule was simple: give people more than they expect, at a price they can afford. That spirit of abundance has never left.
A menu beyond borders
Traditional Thai dishes sit alongside Chinese-influenced specialties — the Pad Thai is the crowd favorite, though regulars will fight you for the Beef Pad See Ew.
Kate carries it forward
Today the founder's daughter Kate runs the cafe with the same pride and same portions, welcoming every new generation of Bruins through the door. The neighborhood has changed — the heart hasn't.
